The principle: Simple, robust and flow-optimized

Butterfly valves regulate flow in pipelines via a rotating disc. A 90° turn is sufficient to fully open or securely shut off the flow path. Their compact, space-saving design – available in wafer or lug type – makes them a robust and cost-efficient solution, particularly for large pipe diameters.

Actuation types and configurations

For a well-informed selection, here is an overview of the key actuation and material options.

Manual operation

Hand lever: Enables quick opening/closing with up to 10 lock positions for clear position indication.
Gearbox with handwheel: Allows manual operation of high-torque valves via worm gear transmission.

Pneumatic actuation

Double-acting: Compressed air is used for both opening and closing.
Single-acting: Compressed air opens/closes in one direction, reset via spring force (fail-safe). Ideal for hazardous areas.

Electric actuation

Ideal for remote operation and frequent actuation cycles in automated systems. Features manual override and visual position indication.

Materials & Certifications

Housing: stainless steel, gray cast iron (GG-25), ductile iron (GGG-40), aluminum.
Valve discs: ductile iron, stainless steel, PTFE-coated.
Sleeves (seals): FKM, NBR, EPDM, PTFE.
Approvals: Many models are certified for special applications (e.g. DVGW-GAS, DVGW-Wasser, TA-Luft).
