01
Solenoid valve does not open
Probable cause
Solution
No power for the coil
Make sure the valve is in the normally open (closes when electrically energized) or normally closed (opens when electrically energized) position. Measure the voltage across the coil using a voltmeter. Pull the coil up a little and feel if the coil creates resistance to displacement (magnetic field). Note: Removing a coil that is energized may burn the coil. Check the relay contacts, wires and fuses.
Incorrect voltage/frequency
Make sure the power supply matches the valve specifications. Measure the voltage at the coil.
The coil is burned
The differential pressure is too high.
See burned coil
Check the pressure difference across the valve and compare it with the valve specification. If possible, you can reduce the pressure difference, for example by reducing the inlet pressure
Differential pressure is too low
Check the specification of the valve. Indirectly operated solenoid valves require a small differential pressure to function properly.
If necessary, replace the solenoid valve with a suitable alternative, e.g. a (semi-)directly operated solenoid valve.
Damaged or deformed valve
contamination of the membrane
Replace the solenoid valve.
Clean the membrane. Replace any defective or damaged components.
Dirty valve seat or valve.
Clean the valve. Replace any defective or damaged components.
Corrosion (rust)
After disassembly, components are missing.
Replace damaged components.
Install the missing components.
02
The solenoid valve opens partially
Probable cause
Solution
pressure too low
The minimum differential pressure is specified in the valve specification. Indirectly operated solenoid valves require a low differential pressure to operate properly. Replace the valve with a type that operates from 0 bar, e.g. a (semi-)directly operated solenoid valve or an electric ball valve.
Damaged or bent fitting pipe
Replace the valve.
contamination of the membrane
Clean the membrane and replace any defective parts if necessary.
Dirt in the valve seat / valve / pipe fittings
corrosion
Clean the valve and replace any defective parts if necessary.
Replace defective parts.
Part missing after assembly
Replace the missing parts.
03
The solenoid valve does not open or only partially opens
Probable cause
Solution
Coil remains electrically excited
Move the coil carefully and feel for resistance. Caution! Never remove the coil when it is live, it could burn. Check the circuit diagram and the contacts.
Dirty or blocked pilot nozzle or tube.
Clean the openings. Replace any defective or damaged components.
The manual override cannot be reset after use
Check the position of the opening unit and adjust it if necessary.
Input connection for pulsating pressure.
The differential pressure is too high in the open position.
The pressure at the outlet opening is sometimes higher
than the pressure at the inlet opening.
Specification of the check valve. Check the pressure and flow rate of the medium. Replace the valve with a suitable variant.
Damaged / bent fitting pipe
Look at the rest of the installation. Replace the valve.
The membrane is installed incorrectly, e.g. upside down.
Broken valve seat or diaphragm
Place the membrane in the correct position.
Check pressure and flow. Replace defective parts.
The valve is installed in the wrong direction.
Missing parts after assembly
Check the flow direction and make sure the arrow is pointing in the same direction.
Install missing parts.
04
The solenoid valve makes a humming noise
Probable cause
Solution
humming
AC coils can cause a humming noise. If the surrounding components can resonate at the same frequency, the humming sound can become loud.
The humming noise can be reduced by securely fastening the components. The humming noise caused by alternating current can also be eliminated by installing a rectifier such as the Power Saver module
water hammer
view of the installation
Differential pressure too high and / or
Pulsation in the inlet line
Check valve specification and differential pressure. Check pressure and flow. Replace with appropriate valve. Look at the rest of the installation.
05
coil is burned
Probable cause
Solution
Incorrect voltage/frequency
Check the coil specification. If necessary, replace with a suitable coil type. Check the wiring diagram. Check the voltage fluctuations.
Short circuit in the coil (possibly liquid)
Check the rest of the installation for possible short circuits. Check the coil connections. Replace the coil if the fault is found. When installing the coil, make sure that no moisture can flow or drip into the connection.
The plunger moves with great friction (due to dirt, damage or bending)
Replace defective parts and remove dirt.
The temperature of the medium is too high.
Check the specification of the valve. If necessary, replace the valve with a suitable variant.
The ambient temperature is too high.
If possible, move the valve to a cooler environment. Check the specification of the valve. Increase ventilation around the coil and valve.
